Frequently asked questions

How do I make a custom Minecraft banner with a /give command?

Pick a base color in the Base Color tab, add pattern layers in the Patterns tab, then copy the /give command from the Output tab. Paste it into chat or a command block in Minecraft and the banner appears in your inventory, already decorated.

How many pattern layers can a banner have?

The loom allows 6 pattern layers, in survival and creative alike. A /give command can go further: set Layer limit to Commands (16) in the Patterns tab to design up to 16 layers.

What is the difference between the 1.20.5+ modern and legacy command formats?

Minecraft 1.20.5 changed how item components are written in commands. The editor auto-detects the version you picked and generates modern component syntax (white_banner[minecraft:banner_patterns=[...]]) for 1.20.5+, or the older NBT tag format (BlockEntityTag) for 1.20.4 and earlier. The Share link carries the version you picked along with the design, so whoever opens it sees the command for that version.

Can I save banner designs to reuse them later?

Yes — sign in, then click Save in the Output tab to keep the design in My Library. Publish to community sends it to the Community Designs gallery, where every design is reviewed before it appears. Share link copies a short link that reopens it, and Export JSON downloads a local file.

Does the banner editor include loom crafting steps?

Yes. Expand Crafting Steps in the Output tab to see a step-by-step breakdown of which dyes and pattern items you need, in the order to apply them at a loom. Great for survival builds where you need to gather materials first.
