Server Status Checker

Check whether a Minecraft server is online, and see its player count, version, MOTD and icon — for Java and Bedrock servers.

A hostname or IP, with :port if it isn't the default.

Edition

Tries Java and Bedrock at the same time and shows whichever answers.

Status

Enter an address and press Check. The result shows whether the server answers, how many players are on, the version it runs and its MOTD.

How to use the Server Status Checker

Find out whether a Minecraft server is online right now. The checker asks the server for the same status the multiplayer list shows — players, version, MOTD and icon — for both Java and Bedrock servers.

How a check works. For Java, our server first looks up the address's _minecraft._tcp SRV record (when you leave the port out), then opens a TCP connection and sends the Server List Ping handshake the game sends, on port 25565 by default. For Bedrock it sends a RakNet unconnected ping over UDP, on port 19132 by default. Only public addresses are checked, the server has 5 seconds to answer, and everything it sends back is shown as plain text.

Quick steps

  1. 1Type the server address, with :port if it isn't the default
  2. 2Pick Java, Bedrock, or leave it on Auto
  3. 3Press Check and read the status, players and version
  4. 4See the MOTD and icon as they appear in the server list
  5. 5Copy the link to share the check with someone else

Example use cases

  • Checking your own server is reachable after a restart or port change
  • Seeing how many players are on before you join
  • Finding the version a server runs, to pick the right client
  • Copying a server's MOTD style into the MOTD Generator

Tips

If a server shows offline, try the other edition — a Bedrock server never answers a Java ping
A server with enable-status=false in server.properties never answers status pings
The latency is measured from our server, so yours will differ

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a Minecraft server is online?

Type the server address (for example play.example.net, or play.example.net:25566 if it uses another port) and press Check. The checker pings the server the same way the multiplayer list does and shows whether it answered, how many players are online, the version and the MOTD.

Does it work for Bedrock servers?

Yes. Pick Bedrock, or leave it on Auto to try Java and Bedrock at the same time. Bedrock servers are pinged over UDP on port 19132 unless you give another port. Bedrock does not share player names or a server icon, so those parts stay empty.

Why does it say a server is offline when people can join it?

The most common reasons: the address points to the other edition (switch between Java and Bedrock), the server uses a port you did not type, a firewall only lets players from some countries in, or enable-status=false is set in server.properties, which hides the server from status pings. The latency shown is measured from our server, not from your computer.

What is an SRV record?

An SRV record lets a server owner point a short address like play.example.net at a different host and port. Java Edition follows it automatically when you leave the port out, and so does this checker — the result shows the SRV target it used.

Can I check a server on my home network?

No. Addresses on a private network, such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x or localhost, are not reachable from the internet, so the checker refuses them. Open Minecraft on the same network to see those servers.

How often can I check a server?

Each check opens a connection to the server, so checks are limited per visitor, and a recent result (up to about a minute old) may be shown again instead of a new check. The Checked line always says how long ago the server was actually pinged.
